What TGIC Is

TGIC – triglycidyl isocyanurate – is a crosslinker widely used in polyester powder coatings. It reacts with the resin in the curing oven to form a durable network, which is why TGIC polyesters have been a standard for decades in architectural and industrial coating.

Why TGIC-Free Systems Exist

TGIC in powder form carries a hazard classification in the EU (H351 – suspected of causing cancer if inhaled) and therefore requires hazard labelling and handling precautions. Because of this, European producers moved to TGIC-free crosslinkers, and TGIC-free polyester is now the default in much of the world. The classification concerns powder handling, not the cured film on your parts.

Modern TGIC-free polyesters match TGIC systems on outdoor weatherability, gloss retention, mechanical strength and cure response when formulated well.
